Grandpa Alabiâs Secret Garden
In the small village of Abumpong, there lived a wise old man named Grandpa Alabi. He was known for his colorful stories, his warm smile, andâmost of allâhis beautiful garden. His garden was not large, but it was always filled with flowers of every color, trees heavy with fruits, and plants that seemed to shimmer in the sunlight. Every day, Grandpa Alabi could be seen tending to his garden, humming a soft tune as he watered the plants or trimmed the bushes.
But there was something very special about Grandpa Alabiâs garden that no one, except for his grandchildren, knew.
One bright afternoon, Grandpa Alabiâs grandchildren, Kemi and Tunde, visited him during their school break. They had always enjoyed spending time with their grandpa, listening to his fascinating stories about the past. But that day, they noticed something strange.
âGrandpa, whatâs that sound?â Kemi asked, pausing near the entrance to the garden.
Grandpa Alabi smiled and winked. âOh, you must be hearing the whispers of the garden,â he said softly. âThe plants have a language of their own. But itâs a secret. You can only hear it if your heart is open.â
Kemi and Tunde exchanged curious glances, wondering if their grandpa was just joking. But something about his eyes made them think that maybe, just maybe, there was more to this garden than met the eye.
âIâll show you,â Grandpa Alabi said with a knowing smile. âFollow me.â
As they entered the garden, Kemi and Tunde marveled at the lush greenery and vibrant flowers. The air was thick with the scent of jasmine and lavender, and birds chirped merrily from the trees.
âListen carefully,â Grandpa Alabi said, crouching beside a tall sunflower. âYou have to be very still to hear them.â
Kemi and Tunde sat down on the soft grass, their eyes wide. For a moment, all they could hear was the rustling of leaves in the wind. But then, something changed.
The sunflower swayed gently in the breeze and whispered, âGood morning, little ones.â
Kemi gasped, looking at Tunde. âDid... did you hear that?â
Tunde nodded, his eyes as big as saucers. âThe sunflower... it just spoke to us!â
Grandpa Alabi chuckled. âYes, my dear. The plants in this garden have much to say, but only if you listen with your heart. Let me introduce you to the wise ones.â
As the day went on, Kemi and Tunde discovered that the garden was full of wonders. The towering baobab tree, with its thick, gnarled roots, spoke of the ancient times, telling stories of the villageâs founding and the heroes who had once walked the earth.
âThe land gives us life,â the baobab tree said, its branches creaking like the sound of old wood. âRespect it, and it will always provide.â
The children marveled at the talking plants, but they were even more amazed when they met the gardenâs animals. A wise old tortoise, sitting under the shade of a mango tree, spoke in a slow, deliberate voice.
âSlow and steady, thatâs the secret to a peaceful life,â the tortoise said. âRushing never brings wisdom.
